John D. Cordes Died Wednesday

John D. Cordes of Dike passed away Saturday evening at the Grundy County Memorial hospital where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He suffered a stroke on Thursday at the hospital.

Mr. Cordes was born May 16, 1897 in Beaver Township, Grundy county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Cordes. He was married to Richstena Lupkes at Waterloo on February 25, 1925. They farmed in Grundy county until ten years ago when they moved to Dike. Mr. Cordes was engaged in the carpenter business. For the past five years he has been custodian at the Dike school. He is a member of the Bethel Lutheran church at Parkersburg, and a veteran of World War I having served in France.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Bethel Lutheran church in Parkersburg in charge of Rev. W. K. Schmidt. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery at Dike.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Vernon, Dike and Kenneth Cordes, Wellsburg; one brother, Albert Cordes, Parkersburg; and three sisters, Mrs. Ubbe Marks, Stout, Mrs. Herman Paterni, Parkersburg and Mrs. Jake Klahsen, Stout; and one grandchild.
