Funeral Services Wednes., March 21 For Mrs. J. Benson

Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, March 21, 1973 for Mrs. Joe Benson, 82. The services were at the United Methodist Church, Dike with Rev. Hoover officiating.

Mrs. John Paige played the organ prelude and accompanied Mrs. Jim Wills who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages". Ushers were Jack Heritage and Adam Deadrick. Flower attendants were Mrs. Robert Cain and Mrs. Keith Klar. Pallbearers were Vernon Cordes, Robert Cain, Wayne Paige, O. J. Olson, John Paige and Gene Cathcart. Burial in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Mrs. Benson passed away last Sunday afternoon at the Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls where she had been a patient for 27 days.

Edith Read was born Feb. 10, 1891 the daughter of Charley and Lillian Clay Read near Gilman in Marshall County, Iowa. She was a teacher in the Marshall and Tama counties and also in Kansas. She married Joe Benson on Nov. 27, 1913. They lived in Marshall and Tama counties prior to moving to the Dike area 40 years ago. They moved to Dike in 1951.

Mrs. Benson was an active member of the Dike Methodist Women's Society of Christian Service, the Grant Homemakers, Grant Rebekah Lodge and the Christmas Seal Program and Red Cross organization.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Willis of rural Reinbeck; one daughter, Mrs. Oscar (Bernice) Depping of rural Dike; one sister, Mrs. Dolly S. Aukerman of Des Moines; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
