Viggo Johansen, 79, Passes Away; Rites Feb. 1

Viggo Johansen, 79, of 514 First Street, Dike, passed away at the Grundy Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center early last Thursday morning, Jan. 30, 1975. His death occurred shortly after he had been transferred from his Dike home in the Dike ambulance to the hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Johansen were held at the Dike Funeral Chapel last Saturday morning, Feb. 1. Pastor Joseph B. Sibert of the Fredsville Lutheran Church officiated at the 10 a.m. services.

Pallbearers were Victor Hansen, Robert Henriksen, Kurt Kelley, D. E. Cathcart, Laurence Koch and Edward Marks. Flower attendants were Mrs. Lawrence Mark and Mrs. Alice Mayer. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Viggo Johansen was born Sept. 10, 1895 in Glostrop, Denmark, the son of Peter and Louise Luders Johansen. A age 20, he came to America and settled in the Dike area where he worked as a farm laborer.

He was united in marriage on March 3, 1934 at the Fredsville Lutheran Church to Helga Nielsen. He started to haul cream for the Dike Creamery in 1934 and continued this for about 14 years. He then worked at the college in Cedar Falls until retiring in the fall of 1952.

Survivors include his wife, Helga; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Rose) Dittmer of RR1, Grundy Center; one son, Robert, at home; three brothers, Theodore (Ted) of Dike and Alfred and Anton of Denmark; two sisters, Anna and Margaret also of Denmark, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
