Rites Held For Henrietta Marks
Mrs. Henrietta Marks, of Dike, passed away at 5:47 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.
Funeral services were held at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church, rural Grundy Center, on Friday, December 13, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Robert Geelhoed officiated.
The Men's Quartet sang "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" and "Each Step I Take." They were accompanied by Mrs. Marvin Graves, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
Grandsons serving as casket bearers were Steven Gast, James Marks, John Marks, Brent Danielson, Bruce Danielson, Burdette Danielson, Merlin Nelson and Robert Nelson.
The ushers were Ben Oltman and Harold Dirks. Mrs. Eldon DeVries and Mrs. Joe Graves were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.
Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.
Mrs. Marks was born on August 9, 1901, in Wybelsum, Ostfriesland, Germany, the daughter of Roelf and Henrietta Berends Bulthuis. She attained the age of 84 years, four months and one day.
She came to America in 1903 with her parents and they settled in Reinbeck. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to the Dike-Stout area, where she grew up.
On January 30, 1924, she was united in marriage to Luke Marks, at the Lincoln Center Church Parsonage. After their marriage, they lived in Stout until 1933, when they moved and made their home in Dike.
Her husband, Luke, passed away on May 10, 1959. After the death of her husband, she continued to make her home alone in Dike.
She was a member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Edward Marks of Dike; three daughters, Mrs. Gale (Lillian) Gast of Dike, Mrs. Donald (Ruby) Danielson of University Park and Mrs. Marion (Lorraine) Nelson of Mountain Home, AR; and by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Dike Funeral Chapel of Dike was in charge of the arrangements.
