Luke Marks Dies Monday While Mowing Lawn

Luke Marks died very suddenly about 6:45 Monday evening while mowing the lawn at his home. When the attack came he keeled over and was dead almost immediately. Death came as the result of a heart attack. He seemed to be in good health before he was stricken.

The sudden death came as a shock to the community. It followed only a few days after the death of his former business partner, George Duisman. He was 60 years old, also the same age as his former partner. The body was brought to the Engelkes Funeral Home where arrangements for the funeral were made.

Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed church, at 2 o'clock with Rev. Kenneth Slager officiating. Burial will be in the Dike cemetery. There will be a vocal number by Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves. Mrs. Marian Hohnbaum will be accompanist.

Mr. Marks was born on a farm in Lincoln township April 14th, 1899. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks. He grew up on a Lincoln township farm. He resided in Grundy county all of his life.

On January 30, 1924, Luke Marks and Henrietta Bulthuis were married. They lived in the town of Stout several years while he was in the employ of the North Western Railroad Company. In 1933 they moved to Dike.

In 1936 Luke Marks and Henry Graves entered into the farm machinery business in Dike. That partnership continued until 1944 when Graves retired and George Duisman took over his interest. That partnership continued for ten years. For the next three years he carried on the farm machinery business alone. In 1957 he sold his business and stock to Dave Walterman. He remained with the Walterman Implement Company as a mechanic.

Surviving are the wife; one son, Edward from Dike; three daughters, Mrs. Gale Gast, Dike, Mrs. Donald Danielson, Riley, Kansas, and Mrs. Marion Nelson, Cedar Falls. There are five grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are two brothers, Dave of Holland and Rev. Henry Marks, Blue Grass, Iowa. One sister survives. She is Mrs. Victor Bulthuis, Dike.
