Ralph C. Lovell Dies

Dike resident, Ralph Lovell, 70, passed away at his home early last Friday morning, Sept. 22, 1978 of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services for Mr. Lovell were held on Monday afternoon, Sept. 25, at the Dike United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Hanke, Jr. officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services. Music was organ and piano duets of "How Great Thou Art" and "Old Rugged Cross" by Mrs. John Paige and Mrs. Duane Habben. Mrs. Paige also played several selections of organ music for the prelude and postlude.

Ushers were John Mulder and Albert Lauterbach. Pallbearers were Jim Huberg, Michael Lovell, Charles Freese, Kenneth Pruisner, William Dirks and Harold Freese. Flower arrangements were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Immings and Mr. and Mrs. Charlton Whitney.

Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery, Dike. Friends and relatives were invited to return to the fellowship hall of the church for a time of fellowship and coffee following the committal service. A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel who were in charge of the arrangements held viewing at the Chapel from 9 a.m. Sunday until 11:30 a.m. Monday when the casket was taken to the church for viewing prior to the service time.

Ralph C. Lovell was born Nov. 16, 1907 near Reinbeck, the son of I. F. and Sarah Carroll Lovell. He was a graduate of the Reinbeck High School. He married Esther Freese on June 5, 1934. They farmed near Fredsville until 1958 when they moved to Dike to make their home. He then was employed by Universal Industries in Cedar Falls until his retirement in 1972.

Survivors include his wife, Esther; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Gloria) Christensen of Dike and Mrs. Kenneth (Cathy) Muller of rural Parkersburg; four sons, Robert C. of Cedar Falls, Vernon S. of Dike, Lynn R. of rural Dike and Craig E. of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Charles Ross Lovell of Cedar Falls and Claire Lovell of Waterloo; three sisters, Mrs. Leona Patterson of Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Ed (Marion) Bennett of Tripoli and Mrs. Wayne (Marjorie) Johnson of Dike. There are 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
