Esther Viola Lovell, 86

Esther Viola Lovell, 86, of Dike, died July 7 at the Cedar Falls Western Home. Funeral services were July 10 at Dike United Methodist Church in Dike. Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Memorials may be directed to Dike United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls Western Home, Cedar Valley Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Esther was born November 19, 1915, the daughter of Nichles and Dena (Boike) Freese. Esther received her education in Dike and graduated from Dike High School in 1933. On June 5, 1934, Esther was united in marriage to Ralph Carroll Lovell in Dike, at the former Methodist Church Parsonage. They farmed most of their lives until they moved to Dike in 1958. Esther was a very active 69-year member of the United Methodist Church in Dike, being the second oldest living member. She was a former member of the Fredsville Friendship Club and the Grant Study Club. Esther loved music.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Lovell and his wife Sara Ann of Waverly, Vernon Lovell and his wife Barb of Cedar Falls, Craig Lovell and his wife Pat of Allen, TX and Lynn Lovell and his wife Doris of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Gloria Christiansen and her husband Dale of Dike and Cathy Muller and her husband Kenny of Dike; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Vernon Freese and his wife Fran of Sacramento, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph in 1978; her parents; two sisters, Caroline Johnson and Grace Pruisner; and one brother, Cornelius Freese.
