Glen J. Stewart, Former Resident, Died Sunday

Glen J. Stewart, 83, died at 11:30 Sunday evening, Nov. 24 at the Schoitz Memorial hospital in Waterloo. Mr. Stewart, a resident of Parkview Nursing Home in Reinbeck, had been a patient at the hospital for 15 days.

Funeral services for Glen Stewart were to be held this past Wednesday morning, Nov. 27, 1974 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. The Rev. John Syster, pastor, was to officiate. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves were to sing two music selections. Accompanist was to be Mrs. Lester Bicket who also was to play prelude and postlude.

Friends who were to be pallbearers were Leonard Posekany, Harold Snow, Ralph Thuesen, Willis Plaehn, Andrew Cannegeiter and Ernest Brandhorst. Flower attendants were Mrs. C. J. Fischer and Mrs. Glenn Alberts. Ushers were Arlyn Billerbeck and Gaylord Billerbeck. Burial in the Elmwood Cemetery at Dike.

Glen J. Stewart was born Dec. 11, 1890 in Jackson County, Iowa the son of John and Elizabeth Johnson Stewart. As a small boy the family moved to the Reinbeck area. He was united in marriage to Sophia Alberts on Dec. 4, 1912. They started farming near Reinbeck in 1914 and moved to a farm south of Dike on March 1, 1919. They continued farming there until they moved to Dike on March 1, 1942. Mrs. Stewart passed away on Oct. 16, 1950.

On June 14, 1951 in Montana, Glen Stewart was married to Lois Nelson. They made their home in Dike until 1969 when they became residents of the Parkview Nursing home in Reinbeck. On July 22, 1973, Mrs. Lois Stewart passed away.

Mr. Stewart was a member of the United Church of Christ of Reinbeck, the Dike Honor Masonic Lodge No. 646, a past member of the Dike Grant I.O.O.F. Lodge, was Mayor of Dike during 1955 and 1956, active in Dike civic and community affairs and was a Director of the Iowa Savings Bank for 30 years, retiring from that position in 1969.

He is survived by one son, Gaylen G. Stewart of Dike; one step-daughter, Mrs. Joe (Caroline) Waldhelm of Brownsville, Texas; one half-brother, John Samo of Marshalltown; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Roberts of Spencer and Mrs. Mable Frahm of Cedar Falls; one half-sister, Mrs. Gertrude Anderson of Blue Earth, Minn.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first and second wife, two brothers and a sister.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel were in charge of the arrangements and had public viewing at the Chapel from Monday evening until just prior to the services in Reinbeck.
