Rites Held For Gaylen Stewart

Gaylen G. Stewart passed away at 5:06 p.m. Friday, December 21, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Dike, on Monday, December 24, at 11 a.m. Rev. Shirley Textor officiated.

Craig DeBerg sang "Amazing Grace". The congregation sang "For All The Saints". The accompanist was Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Edward Clausman, Richard Clausman, David Dinsdale, Stephen King, Leonard Posekany, and Dennis Kruger.

The honorary casket bearers were Reiner Oltman, Glenn Alberts, Virgil Paige, Ernest Brandhorst, Hollis Burns, and Clarence Goecke.

The ushers were Duane Habben, Jack Heritage, and Gerald Bruns. Mrs. Don King, Mrs. John McCarter, and Mrs. Wayne Paige were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

He was born on August 30, 1915, at Morrison, the son of John Glen and Sophia Alberts Stewart. He attained the age of 69 years, three months, and 21 days. He grew up in the Dike-Reinbeck area and graduated from the Dike High School in 1933.

On December 30, 1953, he was united in marriage to Maurine Copper. He had farmed in the Dike and Hudson areas all of his life.

He was a member of the Dike Danish Brotherhood and had been a director of the Iowa Savings Bank for 14 years, from 1969 to 1983.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Maurine of Dike; one son, Robert Stewart of Elko, MN; one daughter, Mrs. Colleen Carpenter of Cedar Falls; and four grandchildren, Heather Marie King, David Wayne King, Shannon Rae Stewart and Albert Stewart Carpenter.

A memorial fund has been established.
