Myrtle Paige, Age 76, Dies

Mrs. Virgil (Myrtle) Paige, 76, rural Dike, died at 10:18 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 1981 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital where she had been a resident since April 9, 1981.

Funeral services were held Friday May 22, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dike with the Rev. James F. Hanke officiating. Mrs. Bob Johnson sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden" accompanied by Mrs. Nathan Groote who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude. Casket bearers were Gordon Sloth, Dennis Koch, Roscoe Jones, Laurence Koch, Maurice Nielsen and Leonard Posekany. Ushers were John Mulder and Russell Hohenberger. Mrs. Maurice Nielsen and Evelyn Dall were in charge of floral arrangements.

Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Relatives and friends were invited back to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshment.

Myrtle was born on November 9, 1904 on a farm west of Grundy Center, the daughter of Peter and Charlotte Wilson Bloxham. She attained the age of 76 years, 6 months and 15 days. She grew up in Grundy Center. On January 10, 1923 in Marshalltown she was united in marriage to Virgil Paige. After their marriage they lived six months in Missouri. They then moved back to Grundy County. In 1927 they moved to a farm near Dike. Later they ran the Paige Cafe in Dike for 17 years. They lived at their present home in the country for 19 years. At age 15 she was baptized into the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. In later years they were affiliated with the United Methodist Church in Dike. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Paige was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and one infant grandson, Scott Allen.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil, of rural Dike; seven sons, Lawrence of Reinbeck, Charles B. of Waterloo, John, Clarence and Wayne of Dike, Vernon of Askov, Minn. and Donald of Kahtmandu, Nepal; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Reinan of Austin, Minn. and Mrs. Carl (Edna) Brown of Grundy Center; one brother, Lester Bloxham of rural Grundy Center; 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
