Mrs. Verner Jensen, Age 73, Services Held

Mrs. Verner (Arlee) Jensen, age 73 of Parkview Gardens Care Center, Waterloo and formerly of Dike passed away at 10:40 a.m. December 24, 1981 at Parkview Gardens Care Center.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 28 at the Fredsville Lutheran Church, Rt. 4, Cedar Falls. The Rev. Joseph B. Sibert officiated. The congregation sang "Just As I Am" and "Rock of Ages." They were accompanied by Miss Jean Craig who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casketbearers were Jeffrey Jensen, Kay Greany, Donald Gonnerman, Robert Grabinski, D. E. Cathcart and Lawrence Mark. Ushers were Raymond Johnson and Ralph Thuesen. Mrs. D. E. Cathcart and Mrs. Elso Doddema were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Following the services relatives and friends were invited to the Dike Memorial Building for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshment.

Mrs. Jensen was born on December 16, 1908 in Pearl City, IL the daughter of Oliver and Etta Barklow Penticoff. She attained the age of 73 years and 8 days. As a young girl they moved to the Grundy Center area. On August 19, 1930 in Waukegan, IL she was united in marriage to Verner Jensen and they lived all their married life in Dike. Mrs. Jensen was an assistant librarian for several years. During her last 18 years she was the head librarian until retirement in early 1981. She became a resident of Parkview Gardens Care Center on September 25, 1981. She was a member of the Fredsville Lutheran Church and the Grant Rebekah Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband Verner of Parkview Gardens Care Center; three sons, Gary Jensen of Waterloo, Steven Jensen of Cedar Falls, and Allen Jensen of Port Orchid, Washington; one sister, Mrs. Sid (Gladys) Greany of Grundy Center; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
