Rites Held For Jens Jensen

Jens "Verner" Jensen of Dike passed away at 2:50 p.m. Monday, October 20, at Parkview Gardens Care Center in Waterloo, where he had been a resident since October 5, 1981. He attained the age of 77 years, 11 months and 25 days.

Funeral services were held at the Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, on October 23 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Don Benson officiated.

Taped musical selections were played for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Larry Tonnesen, Don Gonnerman, Kay Greany, Bob Grabinski, Russell Stirm and Jack Heritage.

Mrs. Elso Doddema and Mrs. Jack Heritage were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Mr. Jensen was born October 25, 1908, in Tyler, MN, the son of Peter Emil and Louina Marie Ludvigsen Jensen. He grew up in the Dike area and graduated from the Dike high school in 1927.

On August 19, 1930, at Waukegan, IL, he was united in marriage to Arlee Penticoff. After their marriage, they lived most of their married life in Dike.

He started working with his father in the building contracting business and later went on his own in the contracting business. In the years of WWII, he worked in the ship yards in California. He was a Master Mason in the bricklaying business for the last 10 years that he worked, retiring in 1969.

He was a long-time member of the IOOF and the Fredsville Lutheran Church and helped to build the new church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlee, in 1981, one sister, Alna Amos and one brother, Axel Jensen.

He is survived by three sons, Gary E. Jensen of Waterloo, Steven V. Jensen of Cedar Falls and Allen L. Jensen of Port Orchard, WA; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel in Dike was in charge of the arrangements.
