Delva Rottmeyer, Age 94, Dies
Delva J. Rottmeyer of Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, and formerly of Dike, passed away Wednesday, December 4, at 9:50 a.m. at the Parkview Manor in Reinbeck.
Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Dike on Friday, December 6 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Shirley Textor officiated.
Craig DeBerg sang "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art." He was accompanied by Mrs. Alice Mayer, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were Edward Marks, Jim Biersner, Pete Badje, Gerald Bruns, Chris Freese and Wayne Paige.
The ushers were John Volberding and Edgar Abels. Mrs. Lewis Luitjens and Mrs. Gerald Bruns were in charge of the floral arrangements.
The committal services were held immediately following the funeral service. Relatives and friends were invited to remain at the church following the services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.
Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.
Mrs. Rottmeyer was born May 12, 1891, in Osteel O'Deek, Germany, the daughter of John and Ekka Tonjes Etzen. She came to America in 1903 with her parents, and they lived in the Fern and Parkersburg areas.
She was united in marriage to William H. Rottmeyer on February 14, 1912, at his parents' farm home west of Fern.
They lived there until 1934, when they moved and made their home in Dike. She was employed at the "Commons" at UNI until she retired in 1956. She joined the Methodist Church in 1947, and was a member of the Ladies Aid. On June 2, 1981, Delva and Bill became residents of Parkview Manor in Reinbeck. On February 14, 1982, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Her husband passed away on March 21, 1982.
She attained the age of 94 years, six months and 22 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, two brothers and one great-grandson.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Holger (Wilma) Dall of Reinbeck; one son, Harley Rottmeyer of Hastings, NE; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, was in charge of the arrangements.
