H. A. Galatas Passed Away Sat.

H. A. "Hank" Galatas, 307 1st St., Dike, passed away last Saturday morning, Aug. 10.

He had been suffering from a lingering illness for the past several months and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, after being taken there by the Dike Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Dike on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 13. The Reverends Robert and Jo Hoover officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves sang two selections, "How Great Thou Art" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee." They were accompanied by Mrs. Alice Mayer who also played selected numbers of the prelude and postlude.

Ushers were John Mulder and Albert Lauterbach. Flower attendants were Mrs. Laurence Koch and Mrs. Marian Knudsen. Pallbearers were Elmer Willms, Jack Heritage, O. J. Olson, Laurence Koch, D. E. Cathcart and Ben Clapp. Interment was in the Elmwood cemetery, Dike.

H. A. Galatas was born Jan. 1, 1900 in Madisonville, La., the son of Louis and Anna Clark Galatas. He was employed by John Deere Tractor Works, holding various positions in various places for 30 years. He and his wife operated the Barn Cafe for the years of 1953 to 1962. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dike.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; two daughters, Mrs. Allen (Shirley) Baker of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Fred (Connie) Barbatschi of Mountvale, New Jersey; two brothers, Dr. Clinton Galatas of Chillicothe, Mo. and Ernest Galatas of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Ola and Marie Galatas, both also of Kansas City, Mo.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Coffee and lunch were served after the committal services by ladies of the United Methodist Church.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

A memorial fund is being established.
