J. W. West Died Saturday At Home of Niece

J. W. West died Saturday afternoon following an illness of several months, at the home of his niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Chandler, with whom he had made his home for 12 years.

James William West, son of John M. and Rebecca West, was born June 27, 1871, at LeRoy, Ill., and departed from this life July 17, 1943, at the age of 72 years. During childhood he resided for several years near Aberdeen, So. Dak., and later moved with his parents to a farm in Wall Lake township, north of Clarion, Iowa.

March 10, 1897, he was united in marriage with Miss Jennie Meyer. No children were born to this union, but early in their wedded life this couple took into their home three nieces whom death had left motherless at an early age, caring for them from that time on as their own daughters.

Mr. West confessed Christian faith at an early age, and at the time of his death was a member of the Presbyterian church at Williams, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, who for the past several years has been employed as a nurse in Des Moines; the three nieces who were raised in his home, Mrs. George Nichols of Golden, Colo., Mrs. C. H. Allen of Des Moines and Mrs. Lee Chandler of Dike; a nephew, Albert H. Meyer of Rochester, Minn.; one brother, Sam of Kansas City, Mo.; and one half-brother, Walter, of Dawson, Minn.

Funeral services were held at the Dike Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. B. A. Wendlandt officiating, and burial in Elmwood cemetery at Dike.
