Marlyn J. Arends, 85
Marlyn J. Arends, 85, of Dike, died November 30 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral services were December 3 at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland. Pastor Russell Muilenburg officiated. Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. A memorial fund has been established.
Marlyn was born April 30, 1916 in Grundy County, north of Fern, the son of Joe and Ordie (Rindels) Arends. He attended the Fern School. On July 14, 1937 Marlyn was united in marriage to Gertrude Jungling at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Parsonage. Marlyn farmed in Grundy County and he and Gertrude resided there all of their lives. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland. Marlyn enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude of Dike; two sons, Duane Arends and his wife Holly of Parkersburg and Craig Arends and his wife Laurie of Dike; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Glen Arends and his wife Darlene, Lee Arends and his wife Pauline and Darrell Arends and his wife Phyllis, all of Parkersburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry; one grandson, Mark; one brother, Clarence; and one brother in infancy, Eldon.
