Services Held On Friday For Mark Arends, 6

Funeral services were held last Friday, April 28, 1978 for Mark Arends, six year old son of Larry and Dorla Arends of R.R. 6, Cedar Falls. The 10 a.m. services were held at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Parkersburg with the Rev. Carl Regnerus officiating.

Young Arends was fatally injured in a truck-bicycle accident Tuesday, April 25th four miles west of Cedar Falls on Highway 20.

Soloist Wayne Arends sang two selections during the services. They were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Jesus Loves Me". He was accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Walterman who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Ushers who seated the friends and relatives were Jake Schoneman, Jake Engelkes, Glenn Patterson and George Krull. Casket bearers were Ronald Arends, Joel Arends, Randy Arends and Roger Arends.

Ladies who had charge of the floral arrangements were Mrs. Gerald Kruger, Mrs. George Krull and Mrs. Jake Kruger. Bernard Beninga and John Spain provided cars for the family.

Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery at Dike. Friends and relatives were invited back to the church for a time of friendship and lunch following the committal services. The Dike Funeral Chapel who were in charge of the arrangements held visitation at the Chapel from noon until 9 p.m. on Thursday. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

He was born August 7, 1971 in Cedar Falls, the son of Larry and Dorla Hickey Arends. He had attained the age of 6 years, 8 months and 18 days. He attended the New Hartford School where he was a Kindergarten student. He was baptized and attended Sunday School at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Michael, 14, and two sisters, Lori, 16 and Leah, 9, all at home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Hickey of Dike; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marlyn Arends of Dike and his paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Ordie Arends of rural Parkersburg.
