Freeda Saathoff Services Held

Freeda Saathoff, of Dike, passed away Tuesday, February 23, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls having attained the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 6 days.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 26, at Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church in rural Grundy Center at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor David Dykstra officiating.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Kevin, Kelly, LeAlan, Jim, Michael and John Saathoff.

Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike.

A memorial fund has been established.

Freeda was born November 17, 1909, in Lincoln Township, Grundy County the daughter of O. H. and Frederika (Tjepkes) Oltmanns. She grew up and was educated in Grundy County and on February 21, 1934, was united in marriage to Arend G. Saathoff at Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church in Grundy county.

Freeda and Arend began farming four miles west of Dike on the Stout road. In December of 1974 they retired and moved into Dike.

Freeda enjoyed tatting, quilting, sewing, gardening, and her flowers. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, friends, and neighbors.

Preceding Freeda in death were her parents; husband Arend in 1985; 1 sister, Grace Getting; and one infant sister, Marrie Oltmanns.

Survivors include three sons, George and wife Lanette of Ryan, Arnold and wife Martha of Dike, and Harold and wife Doris of Dike; 8 grandchildren, Karla, Kevin, LeAlan, Kelly, Deanna, Jim, Michael, and John; 1 great-granddaughter, Kallie Gundermann; and 1 sister, Reka Harms of Grundy Center.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
