Arnold Saathoff Rites Held
Funeral services for Arend G. Saathoff were held Tuesday, June 4, 1985, at 2 p.m. at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church, rural Grundy Center.
The Men's Quartet sang "Rock of Ages" and "Going Down the Valley." They were accompanied by Mrs. Duane Schipper. Mrs. Marvin Graves played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were LeAlan Saathoff, Kevin Saathoff, Kelly Saathoff, Eric Harms, Bud Henze and Edward Hayes. Joe Graves and Harold Dirks served as ushers and Mrs. Joe Graves and Mrs. Harold Dirks were flower ladies.
Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, IA.
Mr. Saathoff, age 83, was born September 12, 1901, at Ostfriesland, West Germany. He passed away at 4:19 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 1985, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was the son of Gerd Dirk and Gertje Wiese Saathoff.
Arend came to America in October of 1924, settling at Pocahontas, IA. He worked at various jobs and on February 21, 1934, at Lincoln Center, he was united in marriage to Freeda Oltmanns. After their marriage, they started farming four miles west of Dike, on the Stout road, where they lived and farmed until he retired and they moved to Dike in December of 1974.
He was a member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one grandson, and three brothers.
Surviving are his wife, Freeda, of Dike; three sons, George C. Saathoff of rural Ryan, IA, Arnold O. and Harold A. Saathoff, both of rural Dike; eight grandchildren; one brother, George Saathoff of Wiesmoor, Germany; one sister, Mrs. Talina Reuter of Wiesmoor, Germany; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, all in Germany.
The Dike Funeral Chapel in Dike was in charge of the arrangements.
