Services Held For Albert Lauterbach

Albert B. Lauterbach passed away at 10 a.m. Sunday, January 20 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Dike, on Wednesday, January 23 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Shirley Textor officiated.

Musical interludes of "Amazing Grace" and "I Would Be True" were rendered by Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude. The congregation sang "They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love."

The casket bearers were LaVerne Middleswart, Donald Gutknecht, John McCarter, Tom Rich, John Paige and Phil Roberts.

The ushers were Jack Heritage and John Mulder. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Abels and Mr. and Mrs. John Mulder were in charge of the floral arrangements.

The committal service was held immediately following the funeral service. Relatives and friends were invited to remain at the church following the service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Mr. Lauterbach was born on March 20, 1909 on a farm near Lincoln, the son of Ben and Kate Dirks Lauterbach. He attained the age of 75 years and 10 months.

He grew up in the Lincoln and Reinbeck areas and graduated from the Reinbeck High School in 1927. On March 20, 1934 he was united in marriage to Viola K. Jans at her parents' farm home near Morrison.

In 1937 they moved to a farm near Dike. They farmed all their married life in the Dike and Cedar Falls areas, retiring and moving to Dike in 1980.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dike since 1938, serving on various boards and committees and holding several offices of the church. He was Sunday school superintendent for 13 years. He also served on the Farmers Co-op Elevator board and the Hudson Co-op Creamery board. He was an active member of the Dike Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Darwin, in 1977 and by a four-year-old brother, Bernie.

He is survived by his wife, Viola, of Dike; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Ardith) Johnson of Randalia and Mrs. John (Carma) Blackburn of Rockford; one son, Benford, of Conroe, TX; one brother, Orville Lauterbach, of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
