Viola was born November 1, 1914, in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of John W. and Mary E. (Appel) Jans.

She was united in marriage to Albert B. Lauterbach on March 20, 1934, at her parents' home in rural Reinbeck, IA. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1985.

Viola and her husband farmed in the Cedar Falls and Dike areas for many years.

Viola is survived by a son, Beuford (Ann) Lauterbach of The Woodlands, Texas; two daughters, Ardith (Don) Johnson of Oelwein, Iowa and Carma (John) Blackburn of Rockford, Illinois; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marlys Pogemiller of Charles City, Iowa; a brother, Kenneth (Nettie) Jans of Evergreen, Louisiana; and a sister-in-law, Loretta Jans of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Viola died November 3, 2007 at Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Center.

Also preceding Viola in death were a son, Darwin; a daughter-in-law, Karen Lauterbach; two brothers, Burdette and Vernon Jans; two brothers-in-law, Dwight Pogemiller and Orville Lauterbach; and three sisters-in-law, Juanita Jans, Amelia Lauterbach and Modena Lauterbach.
