Funeral Services For Donald Jeanes In C.F. April 5th

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls this past Tuesday morning, April 5, 1977 for Donald W. Jeanes of rural Dike.

Mr. Jeanes, 58, passed away at the Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls early last Saturday, April 2 after having been a patient there since March 31.

The Dr. James B. Brasel officiated at the 10 a.m. services. Organist, Mrs. Lois Baenziger played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude and accompanied soloist, Mrs. James Willms. Mrs. Willms sang two songs, "How Great Thou Art" and "Old Rugged Cross".

Pall bearers were Mervin Hansen, George Hansen, Wm. Sommerlund, Harlan Wolfensperger, Pete Fairbanks and Wm. Arp. Attendants of the floral arrangements were Mrs. George Hansen and Mrs. Wm. Sommerlund.

Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery at Dike. The Dike Funeral Chapel were in charge of the arrangements and held viewing at the Chapel on Monday.

Donald W. Jeanes was born Sept. 5, 1918 in Ringgold County, Iowa in southwest Iowa, the son of James E. and Mary Etta Bye Jeanes. He attended area schools and Mt. Ayr and then began farming in the county. He was married to Caryl Saltzman at Mt. Ayr on Dec. 7, 1938. In 1942 they moved to the Dike area where they farmed till 1955 when they moved to Fayette County. They farmed in northeast Fayette County for eight years and then moved back to Dike area to a farm north of Dike in 1963.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls.

He is survived by his wife, Caryl; three sons, Larry of Readlyn, Roger of Westgate and Alan of Denver; a brother, Robert of Lamoni; and five sisters, Mrs. Merle Greeley of New Market, Mrs. Harlan Freeman of Blockton, Mrs. Margaret Mathews of Mount Ayr, Mrs. Alva Jones of Clearfield and Mrs. Merrill Reynolds of North Hollywood, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

A memorial fund has been established.
