Services Mar. 31 For Sp. Daniel Plaehn

Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon, March 31 for Spec. 5 Daniel Thomas Plaehn, 24, formerly of Cedar Falls. The services were at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls with burial in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Army Spec. 5 Plaehn died Friday, March 26 as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Plaehn was stationed at the McAffey Army Health Clinic at White Sands Missile Base. He had enlisted in the Army Medical Corps in 1970 during the Vietnam conflict. He was born Jan. 9, 1952 in Waterloo, the son of Carsen L. and Marilyn R. Moore Plaehn.

Survivors include his parents of 2421 Neola St., Cedar Falls; a brother, David Plaehn of Madison, Wis.; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Moore of Dike. Daniel was the great-grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carsen Plaehn, Sr. who formerly lived in the Dike area.

He graduated from Cedar Falls High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa and Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. The family request memorials to be made to the Easter Seal Association.
