Services Held For Paul Doddema
Funeral services were held last Sunday, Sept. 19, 1976 for Paul Eugene Doddema, 33.
Paul Doddema of rural Dike was dead on arrival at the Sartori hospital, Cedar Falls, on Thursday night, Sept. 16, after a motorcycle crash north of Dike. Doddema, who was enroute home when apparently the large motorcycle went out of control and into a ditch on the New Hartford-Dike road. Members of the Dike Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene at 7 p.m. and immediately transferred him to the Cedar Falls hospital.
Funeral services were held at the Fredsville Lutheran Church, R4, Cedar Falls, at 2 p.m. Pastor Joseph Sibert officiated. Mrs. Ralph Thuesen played "Does Jesus Care" as an organ interlude, accompanied the congregation as they sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
Pallbearers were Dennis Mikkelsen, Rodney Kendrick, Marvin Meester, DeWayne Luhring, Darryl Sherwood and Marvin Luhring. Ushers for the services were Arlan Andersen, Neal Thuesen and Ralph Thuesen. Friends who were in charge of the floral arrangements were Mrs. Lawrence Mark and Mrs. Samuel Schmitt.
The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements and held viewing at the Chapel on Saturday and at the church before the services.
Paul Doddema was born Nov. 1, 1942 in Grundy County, the son of Pete and Mary Holm Doddema. He achieved the age of 33 years, 10 months and 15 days. He was raised around the Dike area and was a Dike graduate with the class of 1960. Following his graduation he farmed with his father. On Oct. 18, 1962 he was united in marriage at the Fredsville Lutheran Church to Margaret Buhman. They moved to their present farm in March of 1974.
He was a member of the Fredsville Lutheran Church and had served on the Church Council.
His survivors are his mother, Mary of rural Dike; his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Sherri, 11, and a son, Larry, 2, both at home; five sisters, Mrs. Richard (Violet) Johnson of DeWitt, Mrs. Robert (Gloria) Toben of New Hartford, Mrs. Stuart (Mary Lou) Longset of Donnelson, Mrs. James (Marsha) Loger of Dike and Mrs. Chris (Wanda) Nielsen of Dike and two brothers, Floyd of Des Moines and Dale of rural Dike.
He was preceded in death by his father and one infant brother.
A memorial fund has been established.
