John Mulder, 74

John Mulder, 74, of Dike, died July 20 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were July 23 at the Dike United Methodist Church. Pastor Matt Conover officiated. Burial followed at the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. A memorial fund has been established.

John was born on February 23, 1927 in rural New Hartford the son of Gezinus and Grace (Wildebour) Mulder. John attended New Hartford School. On February 23, 1954 John was united in marriage to Ruth Eilderts at the Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington.

John and Ruth farmed in rural Dike for 22 years. In December of 1979, Ruth and John moved to Dike. John drove school bus for the Dike School District from 1977-1991. John worked for Ubben Lumber Company in Dike from 1979-1996. For the past three years, John worked part-time at the Farmers' Cooperative Company of Dike/New Hartford. He had worked with his wife Ruth as janitors of the Dike United Methodist Church, for over 20 years.

John was a charter member of the Lions Club in Dike and a member of the United Methodist Church all of his life. He had his own woodworking shop at home that he enjoyed spending time in. He also liked fishing and visiting and meeting people. John enjoyed having coffee at the Barn Cafe in Dike where he could talk with friends.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Mulder of Dike; his son Byron (Lori) Mulder of Parkersburg; his daughter, Bonnie (Richard Jr.) Loy of Keystone; two brothers, George (Donna) Mulder of Waverly and Oscar (Kayla) Mulder of Gilbertville; one sister, Hermina Mulder of Cedar Falls; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Herman Mulder; and two sisters, Grace Alberts and Gertie Mulder.
