Rites Held For Florence Viken

Florence Viken, of Dike, passed away Tuesday, October 26, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes, having attained the age of 86 years, 8 months and 6 days.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 30, at the United Methodist Church in Dike at 10 a.m. with Rev. Thelma C. Subramanian officiating.

Pallbearers were Allen Kvittem, Earl Kvittem, Mark Kvittem, Tom Byrnes and Kevin Groenwald.

Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Florence was born February 20, 1907 in Grundy County the daughter of Wilbur E. and Anna M. (Harris) Byrnes. She received her education in Grundy County schools.

On August 3, 1929, Florence was united in marriage to Albert O. Viken in Chicago, Illinois. Florence and Albert made their home in Chicago until 1942, when they moved to a farm in Fertile, MN. They moved to Dike after Albert retired in 1971.

Florence was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dike. Her interests included watching baseball and doing crossword puzzles.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Albert in 1977; one son, Donald in 1990; her parents; two brothers, Harris Byrnes and Pete Byrnes; and one infant brother, George Byrnes.

Survivors include three brothers, Edwin Byrnes of Devils Lake, ND, Wendell Byrnes of Grundy Center, and Lawrence Byrnes of Waterloo; two sisters, Dorothy Groenwald of Lime Springs, and Faye Benway of Littleton, CO; and daughter-in-law Sylvia Viken of Rochester, MN. Florence was greatly loved and will be missed by her family and friends.

The Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, was in charge of the arrangements.
