Albert Viken Rites Held In Dike

Funeral services for Albert Viken, 73, were held Thursday, October 13, 1977 at the United Methodist church in Dike. Rev. James Hanke officiated. Mrs. John Paige accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Rock of Ages". She also played selected prelude and postlude numbers.

Mr. Viken died at the Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo Monday, October 10 at 2 p.m.

Pall bearers were Jack Heritage, Holger Dall, Marius Jensen, Allen Krittam, Oris OstGarden, and Clarence OstGarden Jr. Ushers were John Mulder and Albert Lauterbach. Mrs. Jack Heritage and Mrs. Evelyn Gregory took care of the flowers.

Mr. Viken was born July 19, 1904 in Fertile, Minn. On August 3, 1929 he was united in marriage to Florence Byrnes in Chicago. After their marriage they lived in Chicago until 1942, then moved to a farm at Fertile, Minn. In 1944 they moved to Hayfield, Minn. where they lived util 1955. At that time they made their home in Austin, Minn. where he was associated with the U.S. Soil Conservation. They retired in 1971 and moved to a house on the north edge of Dike. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen.

Mr. Viken is survived by his wife, Florence (Byrnes) Viken; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Agnes) OstGarden of Fertile, Minn., Mrs. Olga Tyssen of Erskene, Minn., and Mrs. Sanford (Orpha) Edgar of Conrowe, Texas and two brothers, Otis of Marietta, Ga. and George of Fertile, Minn.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
