Rites Held For Duane Peters

Duane L. Peters passed away at 8:40 a.m. Friday, February 25 at his home in Dike.

Funeral services were held at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church, rural Grundy Center, on Monday, February 28, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Alfred Hannink officiated.

Craig DeBerg sang "Does Jesus Care?" and "Safe In The Arms of Jesus." He was accompanied by Mrs. Marvin Graves, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Nephews serving as pall bearers were Roger Muller, Douglas Petersen, Steven Bundy, Gregory Huebner, Larry Peters, Kevin Peters, Randy Peters, Mark Peters, Curtis Peters, Dave Petersen, Darrell Huebner, Gary Peters, LaVerne Peters, Jr. and Chad Peters.

Ushers were Joe Graves and John Weber, Jr. Mrs. Joe Graves and Mrs. Harold Dirks were in charge of floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, where graveside military rites were conducted by the Cedar Falls American Legion Post No. 237.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Peters was born June 30, 1926, in Colfax Township, Grundy County, the son of John J. and Elizabeth Hillygus Peters. He attained the age of 56 years, seven months and 25 days. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He always made his home with his parents and they moved to Dike on September 6, 1966. He retired from John Deere on December 1, 1982, after working there for 35 years.

He was a member of the Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237, and was a baptized member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, one sister, one niece and two nephews.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth of Dike; four sisters, Lorraine Peters at home, Mrs. Andrew (Lois) Muller, Cedar Falls, Mrs. James (Marian) Bundy, Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Vernon (Marlys) Petersen, rural Cedar Falls; six brothers, Herbert, LeRoy, MN; Edwin, Albert Lea, MN; Donald, Cedar Falls; Ivan, rural Batavia; LaVerne, Robertsburg, WV; and Ronald, rural Tripoli.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
