Services Held For Elizabeth Peters, 82

Mrs. Elizabeth Peters of Dike passed away at 7:40 a.m. Friday, October 18, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church, rural Grundy Center, on Monday, October 21, at 10 a.m. Rev. Robert Geelhoed officiated.

Craig DeBerg sang "Does Jesus Care?" and "Safe In The Arms of Jesus". He was accompanied by Mrs. Marvin Graves, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Grandsons serving as casket bearers were Randy Peters, Curt Peters, Kevin Peters, Gary Peters, Mark Peters, and Doug Petersen.

The ushers were Harold Dirks and Joe Graves. Mrs. Harold Dirks and Mrs. Joe Graves were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mrs. Peters was born on October 20, 1902, in Grundy county, the daughter of Bert and Gertrude Poppenga Hillygus. She attained the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 28 days. She grew up near Holland and attended rural school.

On October 5, 1921, at Marshalltown, she was united in marriage to John J. Peters. After their marriage, they farmed in Grundy county until 1964, when they retired from farming. In 1966, they moved and made their home in Dike. Her husband, John, passed away on February 25, 1974.

She was a long time member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church and the Ladies Aid.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, two daughters, three grandchildren, three sisters, and six brothers.

She is survived by six sons, Herbert of LeRoy, MN, Edwin of Albert Lea, MN, Donald of Cedar Falls, Ivan of rural Batavia, LaVerne of Robertsburg, WV, and Ronald of rural Tripoli; three daughters, Lorraine Peters of Dike, Mrs. Andrew (Lois) Muller of Cedar Falls, and Mrs. James (Marian) Bundy of Cedar Falls; one sister, Mrs. Wendell (Clara) Byrnes of Grundy Center; one brother, Glenn Hillygus of Oceola, FL; 29 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, was in charge of the arrangements.
