Lucille V. Meewes, 91

Lucille Viola Meewes, 91, of Dike, passed away on July 4 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were July 7 at the Dike United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. A memorial fund has been established.

Lucille was born on June 22, 1910, in Galva, the daughter of Owen L. and Viola (Heaton) Wickens. The family later moved to Gruver. Lucille graduated from Gruver High School in 1928. She was united in marriage to Russell Meewes on August 29, 1928, in Gruver. Russell passed away July 14, 1997.

Lucille worked at the Grundy County Hospital and later at the Barn Cafe in Dike. Lucille was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church, she was a Past Noble Grand of the Hudson Rebekah Lodge, Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Extension Council. Lucille was an avid sports fan and bridge player.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; a daughter, Patricia J. Miller; a son, Lester; her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her son, Ralph and his wife Jeanne of Melbourne, FL; a daughter-in-law, Norma Meewes of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
