James Erpelding Rites Wednesday

James A. Erpelding, 81, of Dike, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 6, 1996, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of cancer.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 9 at the United Methodist Church in Dike at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Johnson officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike with Masonic and military rites.

James was born June 5, 1915, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Nicholas B. and Theresa (Hermann) Erpelding. He married Lois Schulta on October 16, 1945 in Waterloo.

James was Postmaster in Dike for 30 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church. He served on the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Board for 29 years and on the Grundy County Veterans Affairs Commission for 26 years For many years, he was active in the Boy Scouts, and received the Silver Beaver award in 1965. He was a Past Master of Honor Lodge #646 and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

James was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harold and Roland Erpelding.

Survivors include his wife Lois; his son Larry Erpelding and wife Annette of Dike; two grandsons; one great-grandson; and one sister, Betty L. Warren of Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to the family or to Grundy County Hospice. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of funeral arrangements.
