Services Held For Orville J. Olson

A memorial service was held on Friday, January 11 for long-time Dike resident Orville J. Olson. Mr. Olson died suddenly of a heart attack on January 9, 1985 in Mesa, Arizona, where he and his wife, Florence, have resided since 1976.

He was born February 8, 1915 in Kiester, Minnesota, son of Otto and Emma Olson. He married Florence Johnson on July 15, 1935 in Armstrong, Iowa.

Mr. Olson lived in Dike from 1942 until his retirement. He operated the Dike Oil Company for over 30 years. O.J., as his friends called him, was a Mason and an active member of the community. He served as a volunteer fireman, a city councilman, and was an active member of the Dike Methodist church.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; three daughters, Mrs. Joan Smalley and Mrs. Alice Bullers of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Pat Duran of Lakewood, Colorado; and three grandchildren.

The body was cremated. A memorial service and interment will be held in Dike at a later date.
