Death Comes Suddenly for Mrs. Clifton Weatherly

Death came very suddenly to Mrs. Clifton Weatherly Friday evening about 7 o'clock from a heart attack. She and her husband were supper guests at the home of the Boomer family in Dike. She was stricken suddenly after she had taken her place at the table and collapsed on the floor. Death was instantaneous. For a number of years she had been afflicted with a minor heart condition which neither she nor the family regarded as serious. She was 51 years old.

The sudden death came as a shock to a community where Mrs. Weatherly had a wide acquaintance and many friends. The grief stricken family has the sympathy of the entire community.

The body was taken to the Engelkes Funeral Home in Grundy Center where it was prepared for burial. Funeral services were Monday afternoon at the Methodist church at Dike. The service was conducted by Rev. Harry Gleim. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery at Dike.

Casket bearers at the service were Glen Stewart, Thomas Johnson, George Tonnesen, James Gould, Verner Jensen and Russell Meewes.

Large Attendance At Funeral Services
There was a very large attendance at the funeral service. Relatives and many friends from a distance were at the service. Extra chairs had to be provided for those who attended.

Mrs. Weatherly was born in Marshalltown. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gorge. Her maiden name was Bonita George. She grew up in Marshalltown, attended school there and graduated from the high school. Following her graduation she attended State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. She taught rural schools in Marshall county two years.

August 23, 1930, Bonita George and Clifton Weatherly were married in Grundy Center. They resided on a farm near Liscomb in Marshall county until 1944, after which they moved to a farm a short distance south of Dike. In 1953 they moved to Dike and continued to make that their home.

Mrs. Weatherly was active in community services in Dike. She was a member of the Methodist Church, of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, of the Order of Eastern Star, the Rebekah Lodge, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
