DeBower Dies Of Heart Attack

Elmer L. DeBower, age 52, died at three o'clock Thursday morning, Jan. 7. Death was due to a heart attack. He awoke earlier seemingly short of breath, but went to sleep, only to awaken later gasping for breath. The Dike firemen were called and the resuscitator was used but to no avail.

Mr. DeBower was born Dec. 18, 1901, at Allison, Iowa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gert DeBower. He attended school and grew to manhood in that vicinity. He was married to Miss Lucille Conradi March 4, 1927, at Grundy Center. They lived one year near Allison and 18 years on the Henry Conradi farm south of Dike. They moved to Dike in October, 1950. Mr. DeBower operated the D-X Service Station in partnership with his son Glenn for a number of years.

He leaves besides his wife, two sons, Glenn of Dike, and Donald at home and three grandchildren; six brothers, George and Alvin of Cedar Falls, Frank, Waverly, Clarence and Roy of Allison and Vern of Waterloo; one sister, Mrs. Alfred Folkers of Allison. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Dike Methodist church, preceded by a short prayer service at the home, with Rev. L. J. Runion officiating. The body was brought from the Engelkes Funeral Home at Grundy Center Saturday morning at 9:30. Burial was at Elmwood cemetery in Dike. Casket bearers were nephews of Mr. DeBower; Vernon Conradi, Roger DeBower, Wayne DeBower, Leland Conradi, James DeBower and William DeBower.
