Mrs. W. Jacobsen Takes Own Life
Mrs. Walter Jacobsen committed suicide at her home in Dike sometime Tuesday forenoon. She hung herself from a rafter in the basement at her home.
She had not been in good health in late years. It is believed her death was due to despondency.
She was up and about her home and did her usual work about the house in the morning. Her husband left home about eight o'clock and remained down town until about ten. He worked in his yard about an hour after he returned home before he went into the house. When his wife was not upstairs he went in the basement and found her suspended from a rafter.
County Coroner Harold Engelkes was called. He believed she had been dead about an hour or an an hour and a half before he made an examination of the body. He was satisfied that Mrs. Jacobsen had taken her own life and that a coroner's jury was not necessary. Her body was taken to the Dahl Funeral Home at Cedar Falls.
Mrs. Jacobsen's sudden death came as a shock to the community in which she spent her entire life.
Mrs. Walter Jacobsen was 68 years old. Her maiden name was Mable Krumlinde. She and her husband have been residents of Dike for several years. Mr. Jacobsen had been employed as an electrician with the John Deere Company several years. He left the position a short time ago after he had reached the age of retirement.
Aside from her husband, Mrs. Jacobsen is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Russell Kruse of Conrad and Mrs. Robert Fee of Waterloo.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Dike Methodist church with Rev. Runion officiating. Burial will be in the Dike cemetery.
