Jake Alberts, 76, Passes Away Very Suddenly

Jake (Jacobus) Alberts of Dike died very unexpectedly Friday morning, June 2. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services were held this Monday afternoon at 2:00 at the United Methodist church in Dike with Rev. Albert Hoover Jr. officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves sang two selections, "In Times Like These" and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," and the congregation sang "Rock of Ages." Accompanist was Mrs. Alice Mayer.

Pallbearers were Jack Heritage, Keith Klar, Pete Badje, Albert Lauterbach, Mervin Andersen and Duane Habben. Flower attendants were Mrs. Duane Habben and Mrs. Keith Klar. Ushers were A. F. Deadrick and Russell Hoheberger. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery, Dike. Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Jake Alberts was born July 13, 1895, the son of Jurgen and Jantje Muller Alberts in Lincoln twp., Grundy county, Iowa. He married Edith Johnson on Feb. 4, 1920. They farmed for five years and then moved to Dike in June of 1926. He went into business as a self-employed painter in 1927.

He was a long time member of the United Methodist church in Dike. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Alberts served as church treasurers. Mr. Alberts was also a church board member and a faithful and dependable usher for many years.

Survivors include his widow, Edith; one son, Glenn Alberts of R-2 Cedar Falls; one brother, George, of rural Dike; two grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, two daughters, four brothers, one sister and a grandson.
