Wilbur Wumkes

Funeral services are pending at the Dahl funeral home here for Wilbur Wumkes, 44, who died Sunday night in Chicago.

He was born May 27, 1916, at Dike, the son of Ernest and Ann Kuhlman Wumkes. He was graduated from Dike high school and was married to Evelyn Damm in 1933.

A former employee of the Rath Packing Co., he had moved to Chicago in 1941, was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Methodist church at Dike.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ernest Wumkes, 409 W. 20th St.; two sons, Stanley, Chicago, and John Richard, in the armed forces; four brothers and a sister: Delmer, 2005 Olive St., Ernest Jr., Westgate; John, Chicago; Robert, Reinbeck, and Mrs. Erma Kelly, 122 Thomas St., Waterloo; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1952 and a brother in 1930.

Wilbur Wumkes Dies In Chicago Sunday

Wilbur J. Wumkes died at his home in Chicago Sunday night. His body was brought to the Dahl funeral home in Cedar Falls with funeral services pending at the Dike Methodist church.

Wilbur Wumkes was born on a farm near Dike on May 27, 1916. He graduated from the Dike high school in 1933. He married Evelyn Damm, daughter of Louis Damm of Cedar Falls, in 1934. Wilbur had served in the U.S. army and was a member of the Dike Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn, Chicago; two sons, Stanley, Chicago, and John Richard, in the armed services at Ft. Sill, Okla.; his mother, Mrs. Ernest Wumkes, Cedar Falls; one sister, Mrs. Frank Kelley, Waterloo; 4 brothers: Delmar, Cedar Falls; Junior, Westgate, Ia.; Robert of Reinbeck; John, Oak Lawn, Ill., and five grandchildren.

Funeral Services For Wilbur Wumkes

Funeral services were held last Thursday, Oct. 27, for Wilbur J. Wumkes who passed away at his home in Chicago on Sunday, Oct. 23. Services were conducted at the Dike Methodist Church by Rev. Robert Crum. Vocalist Russell Kruse was accompanied by Mrs. John Paige at the organ. Mrs. Kenneth Kilpatrick, Mrs. Elmer DeBerg and Mrs. Sid Hummel of Cedar Falls were in charge of the flowers. Pallbearers were Elmer DeBerg, Laurence Koch, Gerald Bruns, Lloyd Davids, Harold Dirks and Bud Moritz. Burial was at Elmwood cemetery at Dike.
