Mrs. Anna E. Wumkes, 86, Services Held

Mrs. Anna E. Wumkes of the Cedar Falls Health Care Center and formerly of 409 W. 20th Street, Cedar Falls passed away Wednesday evening, September 23 at 6:20 p.m. at the Cedar Falls Health Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dike with the Rev. James F. Hanke officiating. Mrs. Bob C. Johnson sang "I Understand" and "In The Garden" accompanied by Mrs. John Paige who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casketbearers were Herman Boike, D. E. Schmidt, Laurence Koch, Gerald Bruns, Kenneth Pearson and Warren Schlicht. Ushers were Russell Hohenberger and John Volberding. Mrs. Evelyn Gregory and Mrs. Lewis Luitjens were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, IA. Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mrs. Wumkes was born on April 15, 1895 in rural Grundy county, IA, the daughter of John and Kaite Terbeck Kuhlman. She attained the age of 86 years, five months and eight days. On March 4, 1914 she was united in marriage to Ernest Wumkes. They farmed near Dike from 1914 to 1940 when they moved to a farm northwest of Hudson. In April of 1952 Ernest passed away. In 1957 she moved and made her home in Cedar Falls. On July 14, 1981 she became a resident of the Health Care Center. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dike, and an honorary member of the Good Luck Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Wilbur and Ivan, three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Francis (Erma) Kelley of Waterloo; four sons, Delmar Wumkes of Cedar Falls, Ernest Wumkes, Jr. of Westgate, IA, John Wumkes of rural Reinbeck and Robert Wumkes of Hudson; two sisters, Mrs. Dena Brink of Ripon, CA, and Mrs. Genevieve Seda of Crestline, CA; 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
