Former Dike Resident John Rand, Sr., Dies

Former Dike resident, John Rand, Sr. of 2304 Fairview Dr., Cedar Falls passed away at his home last Saturday, March 30. Mr. Rand formerly lived in Dike and operated a dray service here many years ago.

Funeral services for Mr. Rand were to be held at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls on Wednesday, April 3. The Rev. Paul Elliott of Aplington was to officiate and burial was to be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike.

John Rand was born in Holland on May 31, 1895, the son of John and Amanda Tobin Rand. He married Minnie Webrand on July 24, 1919 in Grundy County. He farmed in the Cedar Falls area until his retirement in 1973.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, John, Jr. of New Hartford; Richard of Waterloo; Donald of Colorado Springs, Colo.; George of Waterloo; Robert of Faribault, Minn.; Lester of Jesup; four daughters, Mrs. Charles Beckman of Waterloo; Mrs. Marvin Wertjes; Mrs. Richard (Dean) Fanning; and Mrs. Gary Alexander of Cedar Falls; 34 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Elso Doddema of R4, Cedar Falls and a half-sister, Mrs. Gus Bertram, R4, Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by two sons, a brother, a sister, a half-brother and four grandchildren.
