Dena Webrand Services Held

Dena Webrand, of Dike, passed away Monday, January 9, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes, having attained the age of 88 years, 7 months and 24 days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 11, at the United Methodist Church in Dike with Rev. Thelma Submaranian officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Pallbearers were Les Beninga, Dean Beninga, Byron Beninga, Leon Meester, Travis Meester, and Larry Freese.

A memorial fund has been established.

Dena Kalkwarf Webrand was born May 16, 1906, in Beaver Township, Grundy county, the daughter of Reint and Brechtje (Mamminga) Kalkwarf. She received her education in Beaver Township country school, and on January 1, 1925, was united in marriage to John M. Webrand at the Lincoln Center Church parsonage. Dena and John farmed in the Dike area until they retired and moved to Cedar Falls. In February of 1973, they made their home in Dike. Dena most recently lived at the Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dike and of church prayer groups.

Dena was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1979; one grandson, John Lee; her parents; 3 sisters, Flora Alter, Reka Kaput and Vina Haack; and 2 brothers, Charlie Kalkwarf and Reinhard Kalkwarf.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Alice and husband Bob Kinney of St. Paul, Minnesota and Betty and husband Bernard Beninga of Parkersburg; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild; 1 sister, Mrs. Fannie Huisman of Grundy Center; and 1 brother, Henry Kalkwarf of Allison.

The Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, was in charge of the arrangements.
