John Webrand Funeral Services

John M. Webrand, 80, passed away Sunday, January 28 at 8:24 a.m. at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 30 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dike, with burial in the Elmwood Cemetery at Dike.

The Reverend James Hanke officiated at the afternoon services. Craig DeBerg sang "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden". He was accompanied by Mrs. Alice Mayer who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude. Casketbearers were Les Beninga, Dean Beninga, Larry Freese, Leon Meester, Todd Danielsen, and Richard K. Schmidt. The ladies in charge of the floral arrangements were Mrs. D. E. Cathcart and Mrs. Gale Gast. Ushers were Russell Hohenberger and John Volberding. Floyd Freese and D. E. Cathcart provided their cars for the family's use. Following the committal service friends and relatives were invited back to the church for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Webrand was born January 15, 1899, near Ivester in Grundy County, Iowa. He attained the age of 80 years and 13 days. He was the son of Dick and Alice Von Osten Webrand. He grew up in the Dike area and on January 1, 1925 at the Lincoln Center parsonage, he was united in marriage to Dena Kalkwarf. After their marriage they farmed in the Dike area until they retired. They then moved to Cedar Falls and lived there until February of 1973 when they moved back to Dike.

He was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, five brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Dena; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Kenny of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Betty Beninga of Rt. 2, Parkersburg; one brother, Melvin of Cedar Falls; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Rand of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
