Former Grant Twp. Farmer Dies Friday
Fred Billman, a long time resident of Grant township, died last Friday evening in a nursing home in Waterloo where he had been residing several months. He was 89 years old.
Funeral services were at the Dahl Funeral Home in Cedar Falls Monday. The services were conducted by Rev. Howard Johnson. Burial was in the cemetery at Dike.
He was born Sept. 28, 1865, in LaSalle county, Illinois, and came to Iowa with his parents when he was 12 years of age. The family settled near Parkersburg. He married Marian Hall of Parkersburg Jan. 22, 1891. They established their home on a farm south of Dike, where they spent many years. In 1923 they returned to Parkersburg and in 1928 came to Cedar Falls.
Survivors include two sons and three daughters: Leo Billman, Aberdeen, Miss.; Tony Billman, Mrs. Lee Hurlbut, Mrs. William Elftman, all of Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Stanley Graham, Parkersburg.
He also leaves two brothers and two sisters, Al Billman, Lime Springs; Henry Billman, Mason City; Mrs. Mary Judd and Mrs. Kirk Stewart, both of Waterloo. There are also 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers and a sister. He was a member of the Cedar Falls Odd Fellows Lodge.
