Mrs. J. T. Johnson

Clarinda Elizabeth, daughter of Charles and Sarah Sooy, was born December 12, 1884, near Murrayville, Ill., and passed away at Iowa City Feb. 18, 1937, aged 52 years, 2 months and 6 days. She attended school and grew to womanhood in the community where she was born.

October 12, 1904, she was married to John T. Johnson. To this union were born thirteen children, of whom twelve survive her. One son, Adrian, died in 1922. The newly married couple established their home at Woodson, Ill., and there united with the Presbyterian church.

In 1913 they moved to Iowa, and in 1917 located in the vicinity of Dike where they united with the Methodist church. Most of these last twenty years have been spent in the vicinity of Dike and Cedar Falls.

A loving wife and devoted mother, she leaves to mourn her departure her husband, John T. Johnson; twelve children: Fred and Mrs. Pauline Swartz of Cedar Falls; Urcil and Randall of Waterloo; Mae, Esther, Clara, Orin, Virgil, Charles, Kenneth and Gilbert, at home; four grandchildren; her father, Charles Sooy of Murrayville, Ill.; three sisters: Mrs. Mae Mason, Mrs. Kate Lemon and Mrs. Minnie Ketterer; three brothers: Leonard, Elmer and Gilbert Sooy; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives, together with many friends.

The funeral was held in the Dike Methodist church at 2:30 Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. C. Scott, pastor of the church. Burial was in the Dike cemetery.
