J. H. McKinder, Dike's First Barber, Died Last Friday

J. H. McKinder, Dike's first barber, died at Independence last Friday. He had been suffering from high blood pressure several years.

Mr. McKinder was born in England. He came to Cedar Falls with his parents when he was four years old and learned the barber trade there. Shortly after the town of Dike started he opened a barber shop in Dike and had kept it in operation ever since. He also established a greenhouse at Dike which he managed in addition to his barber business. He served as a member of the town council at Dike for twelve years.

Surviving are the wife, two sons and one daughter. The sons are Leslie, who is engaged in the barber business at Waterloo, and Ralph, who has charge of the McKinder barbershop at Dike. The daughter Alice is at home.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Dike last Sunday. The Masons had charge of the services. Casket bearers were Hans Kelsen, W. R. Gray, P. J. Henningsen, Anton Lorenzen, Holger Larsen and C. A. Morris. Burial was in the Dike cemetery. Mr. McKinder was 58 years old.
