Mrs. Marie J. Hansen Services Held May 9th

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie J. Hansen, 91, of 262 W. Elder Street, Dike, were held at the Dike Funeral Chapel this past Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs. Hansen passed away at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center on Sunday, May 7, 1978 at 7:40 a.m. She had attained the age of 91 years, 2 months and 10 days.

The Rev. James Hanke, Jr. of the United Methodist Church, Dike, officiated at the 1 p.m. services. Pallbearers were Richard Froning, Peter Fairbanks, D. E. Cathcart, Lawrence Mark, Ernest Brandhorst and Guy Rich. Friends who had charge of the flowers were Mrs. Lawrence Mark and Mrs. Ruth Middlekauff. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Relatives and friends were invited to the Fellowship Hall of the Methodist Church following the committal services for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

Marie Johana Henningsen was born Feb. 27, 1887 near Dike the daughter of Laurits and Maren B. (Slifsgaard) Henningsen. She was married to H. Laurits Hansen at Dike on Oct. 17, 1914. They spent their entire married life in Dike and area.

In addition to farming they operated the Laurits Hansen Hatchery here in Dike for 33 years, from 1921 to 1954. Mr. Hansen passed away on Feb. 2, 1972.

Mrs. Hansen during her active years always maintained a beautiful garden of flowers and like to reminisce with visitors of the early development of Dike, especially of the day the first train came through Dike which meant an outlet for the cattle and other products of the community.

She is survived by her son, Victor of Dike; and a brother, Laurits Henningsen of Gibsonton, Florida.

A memorial fund has been established.
