Cedar Falls--Myrtle "Mert" Rathman, 91, of 2724 Bicentennial Drive, died Tuesday, April 2, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.
She was born July 8, 1899, in Butler County, daughter of Albert and Laura Smith Anfinson. She married Elmer Rathman on March 4, 1921, in Dike. He died July 7, 1966.
Mrs. Rathman received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State Teachers College and was employed at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo in the 1930s. She and her husband owned and operated a truck line in Dike until 1934 and farmed; they also owned and operated a tavern in the 1950s in Parkersburg, then later a roller skating rink in Waverly. They then bought a restaurant on Logan Avenue in Waterloo where she worked up until retirement.
She is survived by a half sister, Edith Young of Traer; she was preceded in death by a brother, William Anfinson.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until services Friday at the funeral home.
