NICHOLLS

A very sad accident happened here on Saturday afternoon when Luella Nicholas, about 12 years of age, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Nicholas was drowned at the railroad bridge west of town. She was with Loreen Bagley and Mr. Bought's little girl playing and picking up pebbles and started to wash her feet when she slipped off into the water about 18 feet deep. The little girls that were with her hurried toward town for help and met Geo. Hummel going to the creamery. He ran all the way to the place and jumped in clothes and all and nearly lost his life, but did not get the girl out. One of the boys at work at the creamery came later and managed to dive down and bring out the body. Both of our doctors came but it was too late as she had been in the water about 20 minutes. After services at the church the body was taken to the vault at Cedar Falls, where it will be kept until arrangements can be made for a cemetery at this place. Everybody in town will miss little Luella as she was such a happy little girl.
