Viola Chase

Viola Metta Chase was born February 24th, 1903, and died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Chase in Grundy county, December 31st, 1918, at the age of fifteen years, ten months and five days.

She was taken sick Friday, December 20th with Spanish influenza, which developed into catarrhal pneumonia, but was not considered serious until Tuesday, December 24th.

Viola was beloved by all who knew her. She was affectionate in the home circle and a favorite among her companions. She was a girl peculiarly humble, seeing little of worth in herself, which enabled her to see the necessity of God's grace.

There remain to mourn her departure, her parents, a number of relatives and a host of friends.

One brother, Norman Larson, died the 12th of May, 1912 at the age of four months and 24 days.

She graduated from the country school June 4th, 1918, and entered the State Teacher's College September 11th of the same year, where she took up a special music course.

A short service was held at the home at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Thursday conducted by Rev. B. L. Weaver. The remains were brought to Dike and laid to rest by the side of her brother in the cemetery south of town.

The floral offerings sent by sympathizing friends were beautiful.

With tearful eyes, I look around,
Life seems a dark and stormy sea;
Yet midst the gloom I hear a sound,
A heavenly whisper--"Come to me."
It tells me of a place of rest,
It tell me where my soul may flee;
O, to the weary, faint, oppressed,
How sweet the bidding--"Come to me."
Come, for all else must fall and die,
Earth is no resting place for thee;
Heavenward direct the seeping eye,
I am thy portion--"Come to me."
O, voice of mercy, voice of love,
In death's last fall of agony;
Support me, cheer me from above,
And gently whisper, "Come to me."
