Cedar Falls--Services for Mary E. McBain, 89, of the Valley View Nursing Center, Eldora, formerly of Cedar Falls and Waterloo, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

She died Wednesday (Sept. 24) at the nursing center in Eldora.

She was born Jan. 7, 1897 in Dodsville, Ill., daughter of James and Estella Powell Walker.

She married Gurney McBain Sept. 4, 1920, in Minneapolis. He died Feb. 23, 1943.

She worked at the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1965.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lois Hume of Eldora; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Eliot of Camino, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Mae Hansen of Oakland, Calif.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's organization.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
