Donald McBain born August 13, 1854, died June 14, 1907, aged 52 yrs., 10 months and one day. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church at Dike 11:30 a.m., Rev. Tremble officiating assisted by Carl Roadman.

Mr. McBain was of Scotch descent and was born in Scotland. He left that country and came to America when he was eighteen years of age. He spent a few years at various places in the east finally coming to Iowa and settling at Brooklyn.

He has been a residence of Grundy county for the past 25 years. He owned a farm near Dike on which he lived until a couple of years ago when his health failed him and he was compelled to leave his farm and move to town. Mr. McBain's illness covering a period of about three years in which he has been confined to his bed a good share of the time, has been marked with untold suffering until death relieved his pains last Friday. He leaves a wife and six children, two of whom have preceded him to a better land, to mourn his loss. Mr. McBain united with the M.E. church at Norfolk, a little church about 5 miles south of Dike, several days before the town of Dike started. When this town started Mr. McBain was among the first to help along and advance the cause of christianity. He was a member of the M.E. church here and no night or day was too dark or cold to keep him from the house of God. A great crowd was on hand when the service began. The church was filled and a great many had to stay outside. A beautiful display of flowers adorned the casket and alter. Immediately after the services his remains were laid to rest in Elmwood cemetery near Dike. A great many followed him to his last resting place.
